Fans of D’Angelo know his presence is like a hot therapeutic bath after a strenuous day. Yet, as the years have become more strenuous, we haven’t had much material from him to relax us since Voodoo was released in 2000. Rumors of a full album continue to lead our aching hearts on, but ?uestlove, of the Roots has thrown us a bone. The drummer of the band, for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, says “the 
album is pretty much 97% done. He’s just finishing his lyrics now.” Seriously, we’re not fooled, ?uestlove (pronounced Quest Love) because we’ve been hearing that D’Angelo was in the studio with new music for years. Can he really keep his drug habit in check and his Untitled ass out of trouble long enough to even promote new music?… if it even exists. ?uestlove goes on to say, “he needs somebody to smack him… I know he [had to] turn this record in like three days before Christmas and that his first show is in Europe [in January 2012]… They even named it the Occupy Music Tour, so I know they’re serious about it.”
Going on tour did wonders for Lauryn Hill and have made people take her far more seriously than when she was constantly 3+ hours late for shows. However, we still haven’t seen a full album from her either. Baby steps, I guess… so yes, a tour is promising. For now, here’s a demo of a cover song D’Angelo recently did. Originally by Soundgarden, D’Angelo transforms the song into a sexy hypnotic soul-jazz track. The two versions could not be more opposite of each other, but both hold their own and give off a sort of surreal experience. (Available tour dates also follow.)
